We are still at Cachuma Lake outside of Santa Barbara California. Will most likely be here till the first of feb, or that is the plan at this point.
I think you may have read in the other blog that when we finally left Minn. we went down thru Nebraska and Leroy was able to look up his best friend. I had written about going to his birthday party last year. Well we had a lovely visit. His wife is a darling woman and I just had the best time. I have never had time to sit and visit with her and get to know her but she is a dear. Would love to see them again. I also learned (which Leroy already knew) that Art is an outstanding artist. He had some pictures there I just couldn't take my eyes off and one that for a long time I couldn't decide if it was photo or painting. He does wildlife mainly and the detail is unbelievable. You see all the feathers or fur, expression. I am surprised he didn't make that his life work but its a hobby tho he does sell stuff. His creativity is amazing. He had a picture frame thing he made for his wife with a violin in it and then he duplicated (himself) a page of sheet music. It doesn't sound as awe inspiring as it is. Seeing is believing.
Since we didn't want to be on the road over labor day we spent a couple days in Wyoming. We even got to go to a rodeo that was close enough to walk to. It was the real deal, a small town and real kids trying to come off the ranch and raise enough points and $ so they can move up. Pretty good too.
During this time we were traveling from Nebraska to California I had a resp infection going. Each day it got worse and worse. The day we got to cachuma lake I was pretty bad but it was a bit hectic with the traffic and not knowing where we were going and Leroy just couldn't deal with anything else. We got to the lake and he asked if I still wanted to go to a hospital ER. I said if I don't die or get better we can go in the morning. He just couldn't deal with anything more that day.
The next day we went up the road about 6 miles to the Cottage Hospital at Santa Ynez. They took one look at me and rushed me back into the tx area. That visit didn't cure me so I went back less than a week later and had a different doc who checked me out for EVERYTHING and in about 2-3 weeks I was back to my norm, except it took me a month to build up my energy again. Lovely little hospital with very professional and qualified staff. I was really impressed with them. They suggested I get a doc here for the winter and I did but by the time I went to my appt. I was A OK. So I guess a disaster was averted as I had pneumonia and asthmatic bronchitis. Leroy said I was sicker than I realized.
Quite a way to start a new job don't ya think.
So we are settled here at the lake campground. We have been moved 3 times. Our area of work has changed twice. We clean two bathroom buildings and pick up trash. We have to work 20 hours a week to pay for lodging. So its easy work.
Since I feel good enough now, we have started exploring some of the small towns around here. We are right in the center of wine country. The towns are quaint and geared for tourists. Some are centered around wine tasting from all the wineries. Some center around crafts (artisan type stuff) and some around antiques. We haven't eaten out much but have had a couple great pizzas. We have been to Santa Barbara a couple of times but no chance yet to really get to the beach.
I just sat here and closed my eyes to think and somehow opened my eyes and I had hit something and the screen was gone. I had a terrible time finding it. So if I can fall asleep writing it you must be able to fall asleep reading it. Anyhow, will follow up later.
